Damini is a teenage girl accidentally assigned to Hell. As one can guess, she wants out. To get reassigned to Paradise, she needs to unlock her mysterious past. A boy named Tuck is very much alive and willing to help her in exchange for his own ethereal answers. As the pair travel around the world to cut through the red tape of Hell's bureaucracy, they befriend an odd collection of demons and creatures. Focused on their own quest, they step right into Satan's plan for retirement...if he can just survive long enough to get there. But who exactly wants him eliminated? Or maybe a better question for the sake of saving time, who doesn't? Damini and Tuck need answers fast to keep Hell from falling under the control of someone really bad. Yes, that's right, worse than Satan.

Hell, as we all suspected, is run just like any other large corporation. Meetings, endless bureaucracy, mind-numbing jobs, numbered forms and even poor lighting are all the norm. Now add a C.E.O. (Satan!) that is trying to implement his exit strategy. Turns out that ruling over a bunch of hellions is tough, and he wants out. Of course his underlings are also trying to help him leave, only their plan has him leaving in pieces... And if their plan comes to fruition, a really, really, BAD guy might just take over and make things even worse!Into all the mayhem drops innocent Damini, who can't figure out why she was sent to Hell in the first place. She joins forces with a still-living Tuck and they try to find answers for themselves while all hell breaks loose around them!
Punctuated by plenty of action, like bus rides, the occasional scooter chase, an explosion or three, and yes, even the ever-elusive flying Cetacean, this book is a funny and fast-paced romp through our own world (including such exotic locations as the Gobi Desert and Davenport, Iowa!) and the afterlife...
Anyone who liked Good Omens by Gaiman and Pratchett (and who didn't??) will love this book as well. No, let me rephrase that. Everyone will love this book!

Welcome to Hell Damini John Otis Biggs Oscar Arcuri 9781522895428 Books Reviews
I really enjoyed this book. The humor reminds me of Douglas Adams and Louis Sachar, and it does make complete sense that hell would be a bureaucracy. I liked that all of the minor characters have an amusing backstory, but the main characters are more fleshed out and seem real despite the absurd situations. I especially liked the way the book addressed grief, it was very realistic and heartfelt.
It did take me a few chapters to get into, since it skips from character to character and the reader isn’t certain who they are, but it does all start coming together before too long.
If the concept appeals to you at all, don’t hesitate, this is really very well done.
The author gave me a free audiobook version of this novel. Thanks!
So what happens when it turns out that Hell is a Bureaucracy, just like any other major company? Biggs answers this question through Damini, a teenage girl mistakenly sent to Hell and who wants, quite naturally, to get the Hell out of – uh, I meant “get out of Hell”.
But she can’t seem to find the right department – between the young demons running around the Chaos Department and the ‘Intro to Hell’ class where she can’t read the blackboard, Damini is exposed to the frustrations that would have awaited her as an adult visiting a bank or any government department. Except, hang on – she can’t read ANYTHING. And she’s a demon.
Damini is assisted / hampered by Tuck, a teenage boy who is still alive, but is seeking the whereabouts of his deceased brother. And if Hell can’t solve Damini’s problem, how are they going to find a single person in the whole of the afterlife? And just what is Satan’s interest in Damini, anyway?
The problem is not wanting to keep Damini’s immortal soul; in fact nobody in Hell seems to care – as long as no extra paperwork is needed. And leaving Hell is a heck of a lot of extra paperwork…
